Why did I receive a notice?
Chances are you didn't know you were doing anything wrong at the time.
But, the fact is, you received a notice from us through your Internet Service
Provider (ISP) because you downloaded or shared a copyrighted file illegally. It
may have been music, a movie, a video, an e-book, or a game.
GetAmnesty helps fans and customers of these materials avoid expensive lawsuits and prosecution by the owners of copyrighted material, by giving you a place to make a payment for the materials you downloaded or distributed (called a "settlement") legally, quickly and easily.
Who is Nexicon?
GetAmnesty is a service of Nexicon, a company that is independent
of the copyright owner. However, we have been authorized by the owner
of the copyright in the infringed composition(s) to act as the owner's
agent to enforce his or her rights in the infringed copyright.
Why me?
You have received this as a result of Nexicon's copyright infringement
identification and verification process. You were not located or
singled out by the copyright owner. Neither the copyright owner nor Nexicon
were aware of anything about you before our automated software located and
identified your infringement.
How do I resolve this and what do I need to do?
You can resolve this quickly on this website. First, you will need
the notice you received about the infringement. Then you can enter
the ID # and password on the GetAmnesty homepage (in the upper right hand
corner), or simply click here to be taken to the Payment section. Once
there you can either pay securely online or mail your check or money order
to the address provided. The settlement amount is on your notice.
Why settle before a suit has been filed?
The settlement amount is generally considerably lower if the case
is settled prior to the copyright owners incurring the costs of litigation.
Why are the copyright holders taking actions like this?
GetAmnesty was created by Nexicon as a way for people who have
downloaded or shared copyrighted materials to settle their disputes with
the copyright owners with as little hassle and expense as possible. The
people and companies who own the rights the materials you downloaded or
shared work with us because they value their customers and fans. They don't
want you to lose Internet service or to sue you. Unfortunately, they also
can't afford to give away their work for free.
The unauthorized uploading or downloading of copyrighted content is illegal according to the Copyright Act of 1976, Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 and international law. Uploading or downloading copyrighted content is no different than stealing from a local retail store. The impact on the artists and film makers who create the illegally downloaded works, and their representatives who distribute it to the market, is financially devastating.
What if I have downloaded more content, can I settle
for these infringements as well?
Only if you received a notice about those files from us. Many people
will receive settlement offers that do not include all of the content he
or she illegally downloaded. This can be due to a variety of reasons. The
Nexicon technology may have disregarded or filtered out the other illegal
downloads content at the request of one of the copyright holders, or the
copyright owner of the illegally downloaded files may not be using the Nexicon
program.

What if I cannot pay the entire settlement amount?
For those individuals who cannot pay the entire settlement amount,
we will consider offering a payment plan, though an additional administrative
fee will be assessed.
Will I need a lawyer?
As with any legal proceeding, the guidance and representation of
a lawyer can be very important. It is likely that the cost incurred to retain
a lawyer will exceed the settlement offer. Deciding to hire a lawyer is
entirely up to you.
Can I avoid a lawsuit if I delete the illegal content and file-sharing
applications from my computer?
No. Once litigation becomes a possibility, deleting files or the
file-sharing application from your computer would violate your obligation
to preserve evidence.
Is it safe to enter my card number online?
You can safely enter your entire credit card number via our secure
server, which encrypts all submitted information.
Why did my credit card authorization fail?
It is not uncommon for a request for credit card authorization
to fail once or twice before the card is finally authorized. We will send
you an e-mail if we experience difficulties in authorizing your credit card.
My Internet service was disconnected. What do I do?
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) controls your access to the
Internet. Depending on your ISP's policies and procedures, your
Internet connectivity can be suspended upon your receiving one or more
infringement notices. If your connectivity has been suspended, you should
contact your ISP to determine what you must do to have it reinstated.
